Please note: The time for this workshop has changed. It will be held from 5:30 - 8:30 pm in the FRONT studio.
Yin-Yang yoga is more of an experience than it is a “style” of yoga. By utilizing multiple schools of yoga and providing a well-rounded practice, this workshop seeks to challenge and restore every aspect of our being (body, mind, emotions, and soul). Yang is active and represents the sun, masculine energy, heat, strength, and the muscles. Yin is soft and of a passive, lunar, and feminine nature- representing bones, ligaments, tendons, and the fascia.
This workshop will begin with a discussion on the history, definition, and real-life applications of the Yin/Yang energies. We will then flow into a Yin/Yang practice: the Yang aspect will awaken, move, and disperse energy throughout to fully open ourselves up to and facilitate a gentler practice. We will then gradually transition into the Yin portion, holding each asana for an extended period of time, tapping into our connective tissues, nerves, and meridians. Leave feeling balanced, clear, whole, and present.
Known to most as “Lexie,” Alexandra (RYT200, Reiki I, and Craniosacral Therapy) had her first experience with yoga in 2011, while studying traditional medicine and public health in India. Her regular practice began in 2014, after making the difficult decision to leave naturopathic medical school. Although she initially sought yoga for its physical aspect, her desire to practice was sustained by the emotional, mental, and spiritual transformation she witnessed within herself.
Lexie sees teaching yoga as a means to utilize her training in healing modalities, medical background, and passion for helping people. She teaches self-awareness through noticing the interconnectedness between mind, body, and soul. Her hope is that each student will tap into their own inherent healing power, liberating themselves from obstacles both on and off the mat.
Lexie has a B.S. in Biology from Salve Regina University, attended Bastyr University as a Doctoral candidate, and completed her teacher training in 2016 through Thames Street Yoga (under the mentorship of Patti Doyle and Lori Pagliaroni). Her favorite style - to both teach and practice - is elemental yoga. Her classes are crafted using knowledge of anatomy/physiology, Ayurveda, TCM, Reiki/energetic healing, craniosacral therapy and/or Qi Qong.
